Jerez in one day

While Andalucía has gained its fame for those endless Atlantic beaches and uncountable sunny days, 10 minutes away from the beach by train lies the city of Jerez de la Frontera. It has always been known as the cradle of flamenco.  Sparing two days of your holidays in Southern Spain to Jerez assures you a relaxing experience, one day could also be enough to peek at its beauty if you don’t have much time. You can travel there from El Puerto de Santa Maria in just 10 minutes.

1.Wake up your stomach!

If the flaming rising sun won´t get you fresh up for the day, head to Plaza del Arenal. That’s the place where you wake up your stomach with a vivid morning vibe. Surrounding the plaza are many terraces with locals enjoying their first coffee of the day. Grab a seat, raise your hands for a tomato toast with freshly squeezed juice, and minutes later, you´ll have that lightly acid amora taping in your mouth.

2. Explore the old town on foot

Now that you´ve filled up your energy, let´s go for a walk around the old town of the city.

The Alcázar is one of the famous and striking points of the city and, it could not be missing on this route if we take Plaza del Arenal as a starting point.  The Alcázar was part of a city defense system, among which there are some other constructions such as towers, walls, and old town gates.

Overlooked from the Alcázar, we have the Cathedral of Jerez right on its side, from where you can stroll your way down passing by Plaza de la Asunción until Plaza Plateros. There you would again find yourself encircled by lots of Sherry bars where you could chill a bit for a taste of sherry before lunch or if you have a big appetite, some tapas such as Chicharrones, Papas Aliñás or Bull Tail Stew are highly recommended.
